I'm Shaun. I live in Sydney, Australia.
During the day I do cloud computing projects for large enterprises.
After hours I love tech, travel, architecture, good food+wine, and getting out and about on my motorcycle.
I have a 12 year old #cat named Sybil who I adore.
I've recently taken an interest in a POSSE approach to my content, and finally got around to setting up my own Mastodon instance.
I post less than I should on my web site at https://shaun.net/
When the euro bank notes were designed, they used European-style bridges which were *non-existing*, not to have to choose between countries.
The Dutch town of Spijkenisse claimed them all for the Netherlands by building them on a waterway.

I signed up for Inkl (https://www.inkl.com/) over the weekend and within 12 hours I converted my trial into an annual sub. The morning edition is a great way to start my day - a few feel good articles and news from around the world without ads or clickbait. So refreshing!
As I settle into 2020, I've decided to take a #POSSE "Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere" approach to my content under #IndieWeb principles where content will be published on my own site first and then syndicated or linked to elsewhere.
I've written some thoughts at https://shaun.net/notes/taking-back-control-of-my-content/
I put together a little write-up of my trip down Putty Road on the weekend.
A few months ago I built a replacement for the 1194 speaking clock that closed down in Australia.
Before now I've only published the numbers informally on social media, but I finally got around to putting a little write-up on my website:
I still need to write-up the technical details, but hopefully I'll get around to that soon.
In September, Telstra shutdown the 1194 Australian talking clock after 66 years.
To keep a bit of Australian phone history alive I've recreated it. Naturally it's on extension 1194 internally, but I've also pointed numbers to it covering timezones across Australia:
02 9099 4494 – Sydney/Melbourne/etc
07 3667 9594 – Brisbane
08 6244 3294 – Perth
08 7078 7794 – Adelaide
08 7918 0808 – Darwin
That was a fun little project!
I do cloud stuff. Love tech, travel, architecture, good food+wine & exploring NSW on my motorcycle. 🏳️🌈
I'm an Enterprise Solutions Architect at AWS, but toots are my own.
